Since Thursday, October 3, Google has begun the deployment of Gemini Live in French. It is now possible to interact with conversational AI on Android smartphones for free.
Since its induction last year, Gemini (formerly Bard) has attracted more than two billion users who use Google’s AI for search, navigation, and even writing. From now on, the in-house AI is enriched with a voice allowing a more natural and intuitive conversation, Gemini Live, deployed from this Thursday, October 3 in France.
What is Gemini Live?
Gemini Live is the evolution of Gemini, generative artificial intelligence. This is the voice version allowing you to have a fluid and natural conversation with Gemini. Initially launched in English, Gemini Live is now available in more than 40 languages, including French, and can even handle two languages in the same conversation. The idea is to be able to ask all kinds of questions to the AI to enrich its knowledge, take advice, even ask it to help you find information.
What devices are compatible with Gemini Live?
All Android smartphones can benefit from Gemini Live, free of charge: over the coming days, the tool will gradually be integrated into the Gemini application, available on the Play Store, on all French devices. The Gemini application, however, is not yet available on iOS.
How to install it?
- Download the Gemini app.
- Launch the application from an Android smartphone
- Tap the “Live” icon at the bottom right.
- Start the conversation with Gemini.
You can ask Gemini Live for multiple things (information, weather, recipes, travel advice, event organization, philosophical concept, general knowledge, etc.), giving it as much information as possible about your request. The conversation is natural and limitless. You can chain as many questions as you want, interrupt the AI in its progress to change the direction or complete your request. Just like you naturally would.
A report of the discussion is accessible from your profile with the possibility of requesting more enriched written responses and having links to sources.
How to choose the voice?
You can use two voices simultaneously with Gemini Live. But you must already have them activated in your settings.
- Go to the Google app. Click on your profile.
- Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Languages
- Choose the supported languages (maximum two).
When launching the Gemini application and the Live function, the system asks you to choose a voice. You have 10 to choose from (5 female, 5 male). They each have their own tone, their intention (dynamic, involved, etc.).
How much does it cost?
Gemini Live is free. It is integrated into the free version of Gemini, but also into the Gemini Advanced version (24.90 euros per month, with 2 TB of storage and a more efficient Gemini Pro 1.5 model).
How to secure your searches?
It is possible to request the deletion of the search history immediately or after a defined period of time.
