Four months pregnant, Sophie Ransom learned of the tragic death of her husband Paul, hit by a car while riding his motorbike. The world then collapsed for the 26-year-old young woman. It was in 2016, on the dating app Tinder, that Sophie crossed paths with Paul. Skeptical at first, she finally lets herself be convinced to see him have a drink. Chance, sometimes, does things well. In 2021, they became engaged and then married, cementing their love. “Our relationship was almost perfect“, confides Sophie. “Paul was extremely kind and funny. Paul’s death plunges Sophie into deep despair. The first days are a blur populated by administrative formalities and unspeakable sorrow. She nevertheless finds the strength to organize a funeral in her image, a celebration of her life filled with anecdotes and good humor.

It was during this period that Sophie began to feel your baby’s first movements. An unexpected lifeline. “I told myself that I had to continue, that I now had a little girl by my side“, she explains.

“I didn’t want to see anyone”

On October 28, 2023, Sophie gives birth to Poppy, a healthy little girl. Surrounded by her mother and Marie, the celebrant of Paul’s funeral, she discovers a new life and her role as a courageous mother.

The first weeks after Paul’s death, I didn’t want to see anyone“, she remembers. “I was shaking all the time, I couldn’t swallow anything. Today I am happy. I miss him terribly, and I wish he was here every day. But I make the conscious choice to get up every morning. I have to try to move forward.

Today, Sophie juggles between her role as a mother and her work as a project manager. Life as a young widow is difficult and requires a lot of energy. However, she savors every moment with her daughter and finds happiness in the little things of everyday life.
