British actor Bernard Hill, who played in Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, died at the age of 79 on Sunday, his agent announced.

Originally from Manchester, the general public knew Bernard Hill best for his role as Titanic captain Edward Smith in the eponymous film by James Cameron released in 1997 and a worldwide success.

The actor died early Sunday morning, his agent Lou told British media.
