Storms, exceptional floods, floods… faces a series of bad weather

It’s been a long day. Bastien, a resident of Devecey (Doubs) whom TF1’s 20H journalists met, spent the night from Tuesday October 1 to Wednesday October 2 saving what he could after the torrential rains which fell on the department.

This resident’s furniture and electrical installations were badly affected. Because on Tuesday evening, the water arrived very quickly in the house because of a muddy torrent. “As soon as I started to see a little water trickle on the doorstep, in ten minutes we had 10-15 cm of water”he remembers.

No room was spared: garage, living room, children’s bedrooms… Bastien and his family must be rehoused. “We realize that there is a lot of damage. And having mud all over the house is weird.”

The mayor calls on state services

Another resident explains that he lost all his household appliances because he was unable to block the water, which invaded everything. “We are lower, so we receive all the water”he emphasizes.

He now has to clean everything up and wait for the insurance adjuster to see the damage. “I think the machines cost around 2000 euros”continues this resident of Devecey.

The water left as quickly as it arrived. Each time, it descends from the surrounding hills. Since May, this is the fourth time that the stream has overflowed and residents are wondering. “This is the first time of this intensity. We have already had flows but it is still not at this level”evokes another man.

On Wednesday afternoon, metropolitan officials measured the extent of the flood because the mayor is calling on state services to find a solution and avoid a new flood during the next heavy rains.
