As part of the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims and Heroes of Deportation established by the 1954 law, a commemorative ceremony was organized on Sunday April 28, at 11:30 a.m., at the Gimont war memorial. This day, scheduled each year on the last weekend of April, is an opportunity to pay tribute to the women, men and children sent by the thousands to Nazi concentration or extermination camps during the Second World War. May 8 ceremony. Wednesday May 8 will take place the commemoration of the victory of May 8, 1945 and the Nazi capitulation. This ceremony will be preceded by mass at 10 a.m., then, at 11 a.m., by the traditional gathering at the Gimont war memorial. A presentation of decorations to veterans will begin this meeting, chaired by the mayor of Gimont, Franck Villeneuve. The Maurensoise Clique will accompany the different phases of the ceremony, with the participation of students from the city’s schools and the Edouard-Lartet college. Veterans invite citizens to attend this event in large numbers, which will end with a friendship drink open to all and served in the city parking room.
