“Protecting Africa’s heritage through education” is the theme of African World Heritage Day on May 5, 2024. On this day, UNESCO is committed to protecting and promoting all forms of African heritage, said Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO.
It is in this context that we speak today of the richness of traditional African medicine. It is a cultural and medical heritage of inestimable wealth for the African continent. For centuries, African populations have relied on ancestral knowledge and natural resources to treat a wide range of illnesses and conditions. Our guest today, Mr Mukelo Lugezye, is a traditional practitioner, and head of office for the promotion of traditional medicines within the provincial council of traditional practitioners of North – Kivu. He returns to the place of African medicine in the lives of the Congolese.
