If the first episode of the saga Star Wars was released on May 25, 1977, May 4, however, marks the day when the saga is celebrated. This day gives fans the opportunity to get together, but also for rebroadcasts of films from the science fiction series or even announcements concerning the saga. But why does May 4 remain significant for fans?
In the films, one of the phrases often said by the Jedi is “May the Force be with you”. And this date of May 4 is said in the language of Shakespeare “May the fourth”or an (almost) similar pronunciation.
And Margaret Thatcher, former British Prime Minister, has a little to do with it. Indeed, when she was elected on May 4, 1979, his political party bought a half page in The London Evening News with a message : “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.”
With the death of actress Carrie Fisher in 2016the interpreter of Princess Leia in Star Wars, this date also became an opportunity to salute the memory of the actress. Last year, May 4 was used for the actress’ induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
