It is a leap into the past of approximately 120 years carried out by the city of Cabourg (Calvados), Saturday May 4, 2024. On the occasion of the second edition of the event Cabourg Belle Époqueelected officials and residents were able to immerse themselves, for a day, in an old time characteristic of the seaside resort, dressed in frock coats, embroidered dresses and wearing large hats for the ladies, top hats for the gentlemen. Class and elegance were required. This did not escape passing tourists, who were ecstatic at the anachronistic outfits and headdresses of these Saturday passers-by.
From the Garden Tennis where you could indulge in croquet games, yellow dwarf games, a tournament with rackets and period outfits or attend puppet shows, to the casino gardens where carousel, vehicle exhibition old, large bi and other old bikes, awaited the public, passing by the Grand Hôtel and its immersive tours, the emblematic places, cardinal points of Cabourg, had abandoned 2024.
Married in the Belle Époque
The event at the end of the morning was the exit from the town hall of a married couple, surrounded by elected officials, municipal agents and simple Cabourgeais who then paraded in a procession ofa hundred people in costumes in the avenue de la mer. A wedding “as if…” which nevertheless precedes the real nuptials of the two young people, a “great rehearsal” for them over which floated a scent of 1900…
