South Corsica placed on orange alert this Thursday, Haute-Corse on yellow alert

The department of Corsica-du-Sud has been placed on orange alert for “rain-flooding” by Météo-, for the day of this Thursday. This vigilance could be extended to Haute-Corse, currently in yellow.

Intense rains on the Isle of Beauty. Météo-France placed Southern Corsica on orange alert this Thursday, October 3, for risks of rain and flooding. Haute-Corse has been placed on yellow alert for the same reason, but also for thunderstorms.

A lull in the afternoon

“At the end of the night from Wednesday to Thursday, rainstorms coming from the Balearic Islands affect Corsica. These rains are quite intense, of the order of 30 to 40 mm per hour, which can affect the same area for 2 to 3 hours,” the meteorological agency indicated in its 4 p.m. bulletin this Wednesday.

“We expect widespread 50 to 70 mm in Southern Corsica, locally 80 to 100 mm in a short time, including near the coast, and very occasionally a little more. Thursday afternoon, the rains will evacuate towards Italy,” warns Météo-France.

Note that an extension of orange vigilance cannot be ruled out for the moment in Haute-Corse, if the bad weather worsens
