By releasing more than half a billion dollars in military aid from American stocks, the President of the United States intends to strengthen the island’s resistance capabilities against Beijing. A way to remedy the delays before the end of his mandate.

More than half a billion dollars: the envelope is almost double the aid already released in July 2023 by Joe Biden. The United States will soon send one of its largest security support programs to Taiwan. In a short statement dated September 29, the White House indicated that the American president had delegated to the Secretary of State the power to “direct the withdrawal of up to $567 million in defense articles and services from the Department of Defense, as well as military education and training, to provide assistance to Taiwan”. Just before the end of the fiscal year which ends on September 30 in the United States and a few months before Biden’s departure.
