The mayor of the City announces that he is filing a complaint, following the reporting of several controversial posters targeting the Muslim religion.
Several posters containing truncated quotes from surahs of the Koran, in Arabic with French translations, calling for war or hatred of other religions. They were reported by several residents in busy places, such as roundabouts and the gas station of Cap Emeraude and Leclerc, on the night of 1er may. They were removed by people even before they were reported to the town hall.
In response, the mayor of Bourg-en-Bresse, Jean-François Debat, declared that he was filing a complaint on behalf of the City, in order to identify the authors of these documents. He declared: “ Islamophobic posters were put up in the streets of Bourg-en-Bresse. Their content is explicitly intended to mean that Islam is a religion of hatred. It is an insult to the Muslims of our city who live their religion in peace and aspire only to that. Beyond that, it is an act of hatred against our fellow Muslim citizens to whom I provide my full support and solidarity. I will never let my city be the scene of the expression of rejection of Muslims. These posters with xenophobic overtones have no place in our city or in our country. »
