Jean-Marie Le Pen filmed singing with a neo-Nazi group, Marine Le Pen files a complaint

Two videos, revealed by Mediapart Monday September 30, show Jean-Marie Le Pen, at his home in Rueil-Malmaison (Hauts-de-Seine), singing in the company of Match Retour, a Lyon rock group very close to the neo-Nazi sphere.

The founder of the National Front is indicted for embezzlement of public funds and complicity in the trial of parliamentary assistants of MEPs from the National Front (FN, which has since become the National Rally, RN) which opened Monday in Paris. But the 96-year-old patriarch does not appear, an expert opinion having estimated that he was not “in condition” to be judged for health reasons.

In one of the video extracts broadcast by Mediapartfilmed on Saturday, the former leader of the far-right party is surrounded by musicians from Match Retour. One of the members of the group sings a piece composed especially for him: “I’m going to make you run redhead, stop playing smart, I’m going to catch up with you, you won’t get far”says the refrain in reference to the homophobic remarks made by Jean-Marie Le Pen against a hostile activist during a trip to Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines) in 1997.

One of the members of the group wears a t-shirt which diverts a cliché of the Hitler Youth, trumpets and drums in hand. According to MediapartMatch Retour notably occurred, in May 2022, during a gathering in Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines (Haut-Rhin) in tribute to French SS killed by the French army in 1945. The group also had organized, in November 2023, the underground Rock antiwokism festival in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier (Isère), which was held despite prefectural bans.

Marine Le Pen told Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Monday that she had filed a complaint for abuse of weakness against the group of musicians. “It is recorded that [Jean-Marie Le Pen] is not capable of giving consent to any act whatsoever”argued the boss of RN deputies, denouncing “scandalous behavior of those whom I will have condemned in court”.
