In Binic, the Carrefour City brand, based a few steps from the port, announced that it was permanently lowering the curtain on Tuesday, October 15.

This weekend, customers were able to read on a poster posted in the window: “It is with a heavy heart that I am forced to announce the upcoming and definitive closure of your Carrefour City. »

A dispute between the lessor and Carrefour

In his message to his customers, Mathieu Leroux, store manager since 2021, gave further explanations: “Many of you are aware of the lease problem that we have been facing for years. Unfortunately, we have reached the end of our legal appeals and have no choice but to walk away. »

A not so sudden closure therefore, which finds its origins in an old and notorious dispute between Carrefour Proximity, the operator, and the owner of the walls. She did not wish to answer our questions.

Customers’ dismay is expressed

This local brand is essential for many residents of Binic-Étables, especially those living near the port. The tourist attractiveness of the area also depends on the presence of a food business.

On social networks, many customers and residents expressed their disappointment, even their anger.

A petition was subsequently launched online, “to guarantee the presence of Carrefour City in the city center”. It had collected more than 500 signatures this Monday, September 30, at the end of the day.

On site, a customer lamented: “I just bought in this area because everything was nearby. Without taking over the convenience store, I will regret my arrival. » Good news, this should be the case, according to the municipality.

The municipality is hopeful of seeing a new mini-market

The City is indeed hopeful that another local food business will take over in the existing premises, at least initially.

“We have no doubt about maintaining a mini-market, but under another brand,” confirms Nathalie Mobuchon, deputy mayor of Binic.

The elected official also recalls the project launched by the town hall, owner of the land located opposite the current Carrefour City, to build a medical office in place of the post office and housing upstairs.
