LThe IRM has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms over the entire eastern half of Belgium this Thursday, from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m. Indeed, during the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms could occur with a risk of hail. The meteorological institute predicts accumulations of more than 20 mm in one hour in places.

Precipitation could be even heavier in the east of the country, particularly in the Hautes Fagnes. If the precipitation were to become even heavier, the alert would move to the orange level.

The number 1722 dedicated to non-urgent interventions by firefighters was activated on Wednesday due to the risk of storm or flooding, indicates the FPS Interior in a press release.

The special number 1722 helps prevent emergency lines from being clogged with calls for interventions that can wait. In the event of damage caused by a storm or water damage for which assistance from the fire brigade is required, you must therefore dial this number. If a life is in danger, you should call 112.

The FPS also recommends using the electronic counter 1722.be, considered “the most direct way to request help from firefighters in situations where no life is in danger”.
