19 departments in the North-West of France are placed on orange alert in the face of bad weather by Météo France this Wednesday, May 1. With risk of storms and floods.
Five new departments, mainly in Normandy, were placed on orange “rain flood” alert this Wednesday, May 1, including Eure-et-Loir. They are in addition to 14 others placed on “storm” alert, Météo-France announced this afternoon. Vigilance will begin at 8 p.m.
In question: an episode “rainstorm not presenting an exceptional character but requiring particular monitoring due to the expected accumulation of precipitation in a context of soils which are already sometimes saturated“.
Météo France had already placed 14 departments on orange “thunderstorm” alert. In addition to the eight departments of Ile-de-France, Oise, Somme, Aisne, Marne, Aube and Yonne are affected by this vigilance.
“A stormy wave, organized and intense, will sweep the regions from northern Burgundy to Hauts-de-France between the end of the afternoon and the second part of the night from Wednesday to Thursday. In the departments placed on orange alert, storms are expected to be virulent with high intensities of precipitation, hail and squalls. Electrical activity will also be marked“, the meteorological agency said.
