“Five weekends, five different circuits, five pole positions, four victories”, here is the assessment, made by Helmut Marko, of Max Verstappen at the very start of the season. “At this point we can reasonably say that we have a fast car on any type of track. Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes have their ups and downs. I like this, because this means our lead increases if someone different finishes behind us each time. We were surprised in China when Lando Norris was the second force,” added the Red Bull sports advisor. And while this weekend, before heading to Europe, F1 will make a stopover in Miami, where Max Verstappen remains undefeated since the introduction of the Magic City to the calendar in 2022it is expected that Helmut Marko bets with his eyes closed on the victory of the three-time world champion. Yet, the former Austrian pilot prefers to exercise caution…
Turbulence for Red Bull in Miami?
Indeed, Helmut Marko and Red Bull expect their drivers to face more difficulties in Miami and in the future, in Monaco. “Tire wear in Melbourne was unusually high for us. So we’re fast, yes, but the track surface and circuit can make the difference. Where our opponents could get a little closer to us are Miami and Monaco, especially since they got closer to us during qualifying. I imagine it won’t be easy to be in pole position there“, he confided. Despite everything, the Doctor remains confident and certainly has no doubt that the Milton Keynes team will fight for the top step of the podium. “We will fight for victory but whichever of our pursuers has the best day will be able to play a big role and this will continue to vary depending on the track,” he concluded.
