DEINZE

Those absent from Daknam were absolutely right for once. The East Flemish derby between red lantern KSC Lokeren-Temse and KMSK Deinze was a poor match that ended 0-0. Deinze already has five points less than leader RWDM.

“We came to Daknam to win,” right flank Tuur Dierckx makes no bones about it. “We knew it would be a difficult match against the defensive Waaslanders. However, we have created far too little to claim victory. We lacked the creativity to demolish the home team’s wall. We must learn our lessons from this because we will still have to compete against teams with such a conservative approach.”

The Tigers kicked just once between the goal posts in 96 minutes. The best chance in the match was for the Waaslanders. Jarno Vervaque kicked incomprehensibly wide of an empty goalmouth in the final phase. “We got off to a good start in that phase, because we almost got the cover on our noses. A goal can just come out of the blue. We experienced this in the home match against RAAL La Louvière, which scored the winning goal in added time. It could have also ended badly against Lokeren-Temse,” Dierckx concludes.

Small spaces

“It was no surprise that Lokeren-Temse came up with a low block,” says coach Hernàn Losada. “That is the right of a team that only achieved 1 in 15. Our opponent has executed his plan well. The rooms were, as expected, very small for us. We should have taken more risks on the flanks and created one-on-one situations. We neglected to do this. This is a learning point for next Friday’s away match at Patro Eisden, which will be a similar match. Our midfielders also rotated too little and played the ball too often laterally or backwards to a teammate. In this way, there was not enough threat in our combinations and Lokeren-Temse could always organize itself well,” is Losada’s analysis.
