WADA appeals Jannik Sinner case

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced on Saturday that it had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) the decision of the independent tribunal to clear Jannik Sinner, who tested positive twice last March for clostebol. WADA is asking for a suspension of one to two years.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced in a press release on Saturday morning that it had “filed an appeal on Thursday to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Italian player Jannik Sinner, who was found to be without fault or negligence by an independent tribunal of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), a banned substance”. “The conclusion “absence of fault after having tested positive twice, last March, for clostebolte or negligence” is not correct with regard to the applicable rules”, specifies the AMA, which “requests a period of suspension of one to two years” for the world number 1. Furthermore, the World Anti-Doping Agency “does not seek disqualification of any result, except that which has already been imposed by the court of first instance.” Testing positive during the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, the Italian lost the points (400) from his semi-final in California and the prize money ($325,000). WADA is therefore not asking that its results since its positive tests – notably titles in Miami, Cincinnati and the US Open – be annulled. “As this matter is now pending before the CAS, WADA will not make any further comments at this time,” the body concludes in its press release.
