before challenging PSG, Arsenal crack Leicester in added time

Arsenal stronger in the money time. The London team snatched victory with two goals in added time against promoted Leicester (4-2) on Saturday, to catch up with leader Manchester City, hanging 1-1 at Newcastle. The Gunners led 2-0 at half-time, fell to 2-2 after the hour mark but managed to escape the clutches of the “Foxes” in the final minutes.

Leandro Trossard (90th+4) then Kai Havertz (90th+10) finally made the Danish goalkeeper Mads Hermansen give in, heroic throughout the second half with a multitude of saves. The victory was difficult to take shape but it is good for morale for the Londoners, three days before the reception of Saint-Germain for the second day of the Champions League.

Gunners join City

In the standings, they move up to second place with 14 points, the same total as leader Manchester City, while awaiting the trip of Liverpool (4th, 12 pts) late in the afternoon to Wolverhampton. Earlier on Saturday, Manchester City weakened its first place at Newcastle (1-1) during a match played without Kevin De Bruyne, injured, or Spanish defensive midfielder Rodri, victim of a ruptured ligament in his right knee on Sunday against Arsenal ( 2-2) and whose season is over.

Mikel Arteta’s team will host PSG, winner of 3-1 on Friday in Ligue 1. Arsenal began their European campaign in C1 with a 0-0 draw at Atalanta Bergamo.
