FC Martigues won their first point at home

Their first home victory loomed, but nothing ever goes as planned with Martigues.

Thierry Laurey’s men still managed to win their first point of the season at home, Friday evening at the Vélodrome stadium, against USL Dunkerque, third before starting this 7^e day of Ligue 2. Despite a quick opener from Milan Robin (10′), the Sang et Or – reduced to ten just after half-time following the exclusion of goalkeeper Yan Marillat (50′) – saw their evening opponents return to the scoreboard with a goal from Naatan Skyttä (70′). This performance at home, and especially the defeat of Rodez on the lawn of Amiens (2-1), allows the Provençal club to move up to 16^e championship place, just one length from the exit of the red zone.

This meeting against the Northerners naturally echoes that against the Grenoblois last week (0-4). The Martégaux even produced a better quality game in the first period, where they were still eleven on the pitch. The majority of offensive actions went through the left lane, with a good connection between Ayoub Amraoui and Alain Ipielé. It is also this agreement which allowed right winger Milan Robin to open the scoring. If the Sang et Or showed positive offensively, their defensive quality should also be highlighted. They managed to hold the match to a draw, despite their numerical inferiority on the Vélodrome pitch. By choosing to set up a four-man defense, with Steve Solvet in front of the central hinge to ensure the role of first defense, Thierry Laurey was able to apply the playing principles that he wanted to establish since the start of the season. The Provençal coach now hopes to be able to move forward. It starts next Friday with a trip to Ajaccio.
