Former First Lady Melania Trump spoke in a rare interview on Fox News on Thursday about her experience of the assassination attempts on her husband, Donald Trump. She describes her survival as “miracle”She was in New York when, on July 13, the former president was shot during one of his rallies in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“I ran to the television, and I rewound it. And I watched. I was only a few minutes late (…) but when I saw that (…) no one really knew yet. Because when you see it on the ground and you don’t know, you don’t know what really happened.”she said. Melania Trump thanked the Secret Service agents assigned to protect Donald Trump, calling them “fantastic” despite criticism of security shortcomings at the open-air meeting.

The former first lady also spoke about the second assassination attempt against the Republican, on his golf course in Florida, on September 15. “I think both were miracles. If you really think about it, July 13 was a miracle.” Melania Trump, normally away from the media, gave her first television interview in two years to promote her memoir, which will be released on October 8, less than a month before the presidential election on November 5.

Melania Trump kept away from candidate’s rallies

Politicians’ wives typically play a prominent role in election campaigns. Melania Trump, however, has avoided her husband’s rallies, fueling speculation about their relationship. The 54-year-old Slovenian former model was also absent from the hearings in Donald Trump’s trial in New York in the spring. He was convicted there of falsifying documents to conceal a payment to a porn actress.

In recent days, Melania Trump has thrown her secrecy aside and posted a series of videos on social media. One clip shows her arguing that the media is not talking enough about the assassination attempts against the 78-year-old former president.

“I had a lot of questions. What is going on? This is not normal. And is it really shocking that all this violence is directed at my husband?”she said. “Especially when we hear our opposition party leaders and the mainstream media calling him a threat to democracy, calling him vile names (…) This has to stop. The country has to unite.”
