Israel carries out new strikes on southern suburbs of Beirut

The Israeli army announced on the night of Friday to Saturday that it was striking what it presented as Hezbollah weapons depots hidden under buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Shortly before, she had called on the population to evacuate.

Israeli armed forces “currently carrying out targeted strikes on weapons belonging to” au Hezbollah “which were stored under civilian buildings in the [zone de la banlieue sud de] Beyrouth »stronghold of this Lebanese Islamist movement, says a military press release published shortly before 12:40 a.m. local time (11:40 p.m. in ).

According to a source close to Hezbollah, the strikes targeted the Laylaki neighborhood, the one that the Israeli army had called to evacuate.

“At the heart of the [banlieue sud de Beyrouth], Hezbollah built three buildings with underground spaces designed to store strategic weapons, with the buildings above serving as shields”accused Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, in a televised address.

“Hezbollah has stored these strategic weapons under the feet of civilians”he added, affirming that “the way the missiles are stored in these buildings allows them to be brought out within minutes for firing”.

“In the past hour, we have contacted the residents of these three buildings”who must evacuate “immediately for their own safety”he added.

Before him, Colonel Avichai Adraee, spokesperson for the Israeli army for the Arabic-speaking public, had published maps on X locating the three buildings and in a video called on local residents to evacuate within a radius of 500 m around these targets potential.
