A Google search for the keywords: “lower price of bread in Senegal” directed PesaCheck to this YouTube video in which Amadou Gaye, the president of the National Federation of Bakers of Senegal denies this allegation.

He says, among other things, this: “the information reporting the drop in the price of a baguette from 175 CFA francs to 125 CFA francs, from May 10, 2024, is false. This is fake news. That’s not true.”

Gaye also explains that “the setting of the price of the baguette follows an approval regime. It is set by a decree, after consultation with all the stakeholders concerned: consumer associations, the State and all its ministries and bakers’ associations. Information corroborated here, here and here.

The price of bread has in fact not increased from 175 francs to 125 francs in Senegal, contrary to the assertion that we are verifying.
