Since December 2023, Argentina has had the first president “ libertarian » of its history. Apart from the strangeness of the political label, and beyond the fanciful character of the character Milei, this anti-progressive electoral mutiny, as some describe the election, refers us to a global phenomenon of the emergence of populist radical rights . Javier Milei’s hyper-individualist, xenophobic, anti-parliamentary and anti-feminist speeches capture the social malaise and rejection of traditional political and cultural elites.
How to understand this political shift ? Understanding what is happening in Argentina also means questioning the identity and populist future of our democracies.
