Deceased on November 8, 2023, at the age of 74, this Blainvillais, passionate about the history of the Calvados commune, is the author of the books Blainville of yesteryearAnd Blainville under the Occupation.

“It will be a day in the image of Jojo, that’s what we called him here in Blainville-sur-Orne”confides Lionel Marie, mayor of the commune. Georges Ben Ahmed was a man of many hats: territorial agent of the city, caretaker of the leisure center for fifteen years, president of the association Blainville and its history… According to the mayor: “Associating his name with the media library esplanade seemed obvious to us.”
As a common theme, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., an exhibition at the media library will immerse the public in a classroom from the 1950s. “These are school furniture that Georges Ben Ahmed had kept in the premises of the Blainville and its history association”says Lionel Marie. There will also be a game of differences between yesterday and today, on the esplanade.
A program full of history
At 10:30 a.m. or 2 p.m., Serge Porquet, storyteller, and Marie Abhervé, director of the media library, will reveal traces of the Blainville of yesteryear. “The narrated walk will stop at ten stages with old photos, anecdotes and songs”explains Serge Porquet. Be careful, it is advisable to book! If the weather is bad, everything takes place inside the media library.
At 3:30 p.m., a dictation on the esplanade of the media library will bring back childhood memories. “This dictation will be read and corrected by Bruno Mériel, former director of the Colbert school, now retired.” A first part is planned for everyone from 8 years old and a second part for everyone from 12 years old. Reservations recommended!
At 5 p.m., tribute to Georges Ben Ahmed in front of the media library and inauguration of the esplanade in his name.
At 6 p.m., a friendly space set up on the lawn in front of the media library will give way to a complimentary cocktail. As a bonus, a concert by the group Celest on the Bayou, New Orleans jazz and traditional songs from the other side of the Atlantic. “People can bring their own picnic, but there will be a food and drink stand.”
