Green certificates: thousands of Belgians will get a nice sum back

EIn 2014, 43,357 Belgians filed an appeal to recover the five years of green certificates for photovoltaic installations “stolen” by the Walloon Region. Today, several thousand have received a letter in their mailbox telling them that they will be compensated for five years of green certificates and will receive a nice sum, reports Sudinfo.

As a reminder, in 2014, the PS-cdH-Ecolo government decided to reduce the duration of granting green certificates from 15 to 10 years for installations made between 2008 and November 2011. This means five years cut from the initial duration for nearly 80,000 families. The same year, Wallonia decided to completely stop the green certificate system for domestic installations, causing an outcry. According to the SPW, 43,357 appeals were then filed by prosumers. Of these nearly 40,000 appeals, nearly 14,000 were accepted, which means that these prosumers are recovering or have already recovered their green certificates.

For some, these five years of certificates could earn them several thousand euros.

According to the SPW, 1,729 applications remain to be processed by the end of the year.
