Death of a 16-year-old girl in September 2011: a man pleads guilty in the Youth Court

Thirteen years after the death of a 16-year-old girl during a party that turned violent in September 2011 in Rawdon, a 28-year-old man has just pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

The accused, who cannot be named since he was a minor at the time of the events, admitted his guilt on Monday morning in the Youth Division at the Joliette courthouse.

The teenager was killed after a stone was thrown at the vehicle she was traveling in.

The party was taking place around a fire at the accused’s home on Chemin du Lac Brennan. A fight broke out between the victim and her ex, and the latter called her boyfriend to come pick her up.

Rocks were thrown at the vehicle in which the 16-year-old girl was travelling, one of which hit her. She later died of her injuries.

It is thanks to the hard work of investigators from the unresolved cases division of the Sûreté du Québec that an arrest was made.

Pierre Jubinville discussed this story with Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

In this case, a young adult was charged with second-degree murder a month after the events. In February 2016, the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions requested a stay of proceedings shortly before the start of Mr. Lukian’s jury trial.

The accused will return to court next December when a joint submission will be presented before the judge.
