(Agence Ecofin) – In July 2024, Instagram had risen to the top of the most downloaded apps with 61 million installations (AppFigures), ahead of TikTok and Facebook. While August 2024 does not show any major upheavals at the top of the ranking, there are notable changes in the second half of the top 10, including the entry of ChatGPT.

As of August 2024, Instagram remains the most downloaded app in the world with 64 million downloads, according to AppFigures. TikTok maintains second place with 49 million installs, while Facebook ranks third with 43 million downloads. The top three remain stable, marking the continued success of these social platforms.

In fourth and fifth positions we find WhatsApp and Temu, with 42 million and 35 million downloads respectively.

The numbers highlight the growing popularity of these apps, including Temu, an e-commerce platform that is gaining momentum. The sixth spot is now occupied by Threads, which recorded 28 million downloads in August, taking over from Telegram (27 million) which still dominated this rank in July.

It should also be noted that ChatGPT, with 19 million downloads, has entered the top 10, replacing Messenger, which has left this ranking.

Looking at the results by platform, there are some differences in download trends. On iOS, TikTok leads the way with 13 million downloads, followed by Threads with 11 million, reflecting the appeal of these apps to iPhone users. On Google Play, Instagram leads the way with 56 million downloads, followed closely by Facebook with 36 million. This contrast highlights the distinct audience split between the two leading mobile platforms.
