The 77th Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from May 14 to 25, announced this Tuesday evening, the president of the Caméra d’or jury. Or rather the co-presidents of the jury.
It is in fact a tandem which will, this year, be at the head of the jury responsible, since 1978, for awarding the prize for best first film, all sections combined (Official Competition, Un Certain Regard, Quinzaine des filmmakers and Semaine de la Critical). Not a great first, because the Jury for this “young talent” prize was already co-chaired in 1996 by actress Françoise Fabian and director Daniel Schmid; in 2002, Marthe Keller joined forces with Géraldine Chaplin and in 2006, brothers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne shared this poster.

This time, it will be the French actress Emmanuelle Béart and the Belgian musician and director of Congolese origin Baloji, whose first feature film, “Augure” was unveiled in the Un certain regard section in 2023 and obtained the New Voice Prize.
“A first film is the impossibility of doing anything other than digging into the depths of one’s being what one cannot keep silent. A moving and terribly free birth: no one is waiting for you yet. We are going with it wonder and respect honor our duty”, assures Emmanuelle Béart in a press release from the Festival. The actress with an impressive filmography as well as the daring and visionary creator Baloji will be accompanied in their task by Gilles Porte (director of photography), Pascal Buron (DGA HR & Supports of TSF), Zoé Wittock (screenwriter, director) and Nathalie Chifflet (Cinema & culture section head, Ebra group, treasurer of the SFCC).
In the past, the Golden Camera jury has rewarded Jim Jarmusch, Jafar Panahi, Ildikó Enyedi, Steve McQueen, Anthony Chen and Lukas Dhont, among others.
