Clément Beaune beaten by Emmanuel Grégoire in the first round of legislative elections in Paris

Outgoing Renaissance MP Clément Beaune on June 9, the evening of the European elections. BRUNO LEVY FOR “THE WORLD”

This is one of the surprises of this first round. Clément Beaune, a Macronist from the very beginning, who represents a rather left-wing line within Renaissance, did not manage to get re-elected in his constituency, the 7the of Paris, obtaining only 32.8% of the votes on Sunday June 30 in the first round of the legislative elections. He was facing a heavyweight from the Parisian socialists, Emmanuel Grégoire, candidate of the New Popular Front, who was elected in the first round with 50.87%.

In 2022, Mr. Beaune was elected deputy in the second round with only 50.7% of the votes against the left-wing candidate, Caroline Mécary. In 2024, he lost his place in government during the reshuffle at the start of the year after opposing the “immigration” law. Reinvested by his camp despite the tensions of the previous months, he made it clear that he was committed “freely” in this campaign, seeking to distance himself from his former mentor, Emmanuel Macron, and to bring together left-wing figures around a coalition, to try to beat Anne Hidalgo’s first deputy. A lost bet.
