French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, candidate for the outgoing presidential majority, Renaissance and allies, came out on top in the vote in his stronghold of Tourcoing.

According to the partial results communicated by the Ministry of the Interior, Darmanin came out on top in the 10th constituency of the North, with 41% of the estimated votes, ahead of the RN candidate Bastien Verbrugghe who received 36.86% of the votes.

“We must remain extremely mobilized” declared the emblematic figure of the macronie, believing that “nothing is done” and recalling that “it is an extremely difficult constituency”.

Darmanin called on all voters in his constituency to rally around him in the second round, scheduled for July 7, “to block the National Rally.”

And the tenant of Place Beauvau added: “The people of the North will be very numerous to say no to the very displayed pretension of the RN. I will be a protector for my constituency and in the National Assembly.”

As a reminder, the alliance between the National Rally (RN) and the Republican candidates (LR) led by the party’s contested president, Éric Ciotti, won the first round of early legislative elections in France, with 34% of the vote, according to initial estimates relayed by the local press.

Next came the New Popular Front with 28.1% of the vote and Ensemble (presidential majority) which won 20.3% of the vote.

In 2022, Gérald Darmanin was elected in the second round with 57.52% of the vote against the candidate of La France Insoumise, Leslie Mortreux.
