Here is now the detailed presentation of the second stage of the Tour de France 2024, which will take place on Sunday June 30 between Cesenatico and Bologna. The race will be broadcast in full on France 2 and France 3.
Stage time: 12:30 p.m. > approximately 5 p.m.
The second stage of the Tour de France 2024 will offer tricky terrain in Emilia-Romagna, with hills that should encourage punchers to attack. The passage through the Gallisterna hill and the Imola racing circuit halfway through will be a nod to the double world champion in the discipline. However, victory should be decided on the Bologna circuit, with the San Luca Sanctuary hill, well known to Giro dell’Emilia fans.
The Monticino hill (2 kilometres at 7.5%) will be anecdotal and will only serve to hunt for points and bonuses for the adventurers. The Gallisterna hill (1.2 kilometres at 12.8%), located 110 kilometres from the finish, will offer a sumptuous setting on the approach to the Imola race track, but will not be decisive. The Botteghino di Zocca hills (1.9 kilometres at 6.9%) and Montecalvo hills (2.7 kilometres at 7.7%) will not see any movement before entering the final circuit.
The nerve centre of the second stage of the 2024 Tour de France will be the semi-urban circuit of Bologna, with an 18.4-kilometre loop to be covered twice. The San Luca climb (1.9 kilometres at 10.6%) will be a brutal five-and-a-half-minute effort, which should render a final judgment.
After the San Luca climb, the riders will take the famous descent of the Giro dell’Emilia, which is not dangerous but not recommended to descend at full speed. The end of the descent and the race towards the finish will require the riders’ abilities to resist the return of what remains of the peloton.
