“I decided to stop.” At 34, Christophe Lemaître announced that he was ending his professional career.

Olympic medalist in the 200m at Rio 2016, the athlete who left his mark on the history of his discipline, chose not to continue, having still not qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“At the start of the season, I told myself that everything was going to depend on this year, on how I was going to feel, on how I was going to evolve…” he declared in the columns of the Team.

“I saw that I was still capable of doing good quality training, but the results weren’t following. I had this calf injury, it destroyed the last hopes I had. My body couldn’t keep up, even when I did things well. That’s why I decided to stop. I’m going to do athletics for fun, I’m not going to bother doing high level anymore.”

This weekend, he will be in Angers but will not participate in the French Championships. “It’s like an addiction,” added the triple individual European champion, “you have to stop gradually.”
