Thurgau mourns the loss of government councilor Sonja Wiesmann. The SP politician who was elected to the government last April died on Thursday.

Thurgau government councilor Sonja Wiesmann is dead. According to a statement from the Thurgau State Chancellery, Wiesmann had to go into hospital care on Wednesday evening. She died of a pulmonary hemorrhage on Thursday morning. “The government council of the Canton of Thurgau is deeply affected by the loss of his colleague and expresses its deepest sympathy to the relatives, especially the two adult daughters,” writes the State Chancellery.
-Sonja Wiesmann completed technical training in the field of road construction and then worked in construction. From 2007 to 2009 she was a member of the Sirnach local council, and in 2009 she took over the municipal council in Wigoltingen. From 2005 to 2024 she was a member of the Grand Council, which she chaired in 2014/2015. On April 7, 2024, the 58-year-old was elected to the Thurgau Government Council and took over leadership of the Department of Justice and Security on June 1, 2024. (red)
