The Minister of the Economy declared that the executive was finally giving up taxing the wealthiest retirees in 2025, favoring the contribution of companies, reduced to one year instead of two.
-Retirees will ultimately be preserved. The Minister of the Economy, Éric Lombard, finally ruled out the idea of taxing retired French people to finance social protection. The minister assures that there will be no new taxes on households: “Tax increases have been made in the past, we are really going to stick to that”he confirmed this Thursday morning on France 2.
As for the idea of making the French work 7 hours more per year, the Bercy tenant remains evasive: “This track is also under debate”he confirmed again this morning, specifying that “if the social partners are against it, I don’t think we will do it”. Éric Lombard also reassures businesses, announcing that the corporate tax surcharge will only apply for one year instead of two in the previous government's plan.
