As most hunkered down inside to avoid Tuesday’s subzero temperatures, that was not an option for all. “Anything to get the job done,” Mario Cutsforth of Mr. P’s Tires told WISN 12 News on Tuesday. The tire shop is located in Bay View along Kinnickinnic Avenue in Milwaukee, where it’s like watching a NASCAR pit crew at work. A car pulls up outside the shop, and within seconds, mechanics surround it and begin removing, repairing and replacing the tires. “On a normal day, about 180 tires, just in new ones alone. That’s not including repairs, and all the other stuff that’s going to come in that needs to get done,” longtime tire mechanic Ray Marrero said. Tuesday’s pace was even quicker, brought on by temperatures below zero. “It’s brutal on our equipment, our jacks, our air gun. It’s just more wear and tear. It’s just harder to work in this kind of weather,” Marrero said. If you take a quick lap around the tire repair shop’s Bay View location, you won’t find a garage. The tire shop said their outdoor method allows them to service more cars at once, which is why most of Mr. P’s mechanics wear a lot of layers. “Joggers, work pants, jumpsuit, big coat, two sweaters, face mask, a nice hat, gloves,” Cutsforth said. “How many pairs of socks do you have on right now?” asked WISN 12 News’ Hannah Hilyard.”Three,” he replied.”I feel good. It’s actually not too bad out here,” Marrero added.
