New blow for Galeries Lafayette which plans to close its two stores located in Marseille. A decision that is nonetheless logical since both brands have been recording recurring losses for several years. The group nevertheless promises to reclassify the 145 employees concerned internally, as reported by La Provence.

Thus, the store located in the Bourse center, which opened its doors in 1991, and that of the Prado shopping center, adjacent to the Stade Vélodrome and existing since 2018, will have to close their doors at the end of 2025.

An untenable situation

In an announcement made to social partners, reported by Franceinfo, the group pointed out an untenable situation. “ This situation is no longer tenable today so as not to unbalance the performance of the rest of the French Galeries Lafayette network, which is part of a dynamic of positive and buoyant activity, and in which the company must continue to invest. »

The group's general director, Nicolas Houzé, assured that he had sought “ possible alternative solutions » but, for lack of having found “ a premium location and sufficient space that meets the group's expectations in order to stay in the Marseille city », the closure was decided.
