In the bonus devoted yesterday to the portraits of five new candidates for the 20th edition of her dating show, Karine Le Marchand introduced Laurent, whose story left no one indifferent.

Season 20 of Karine Le Marchand's docu-reality has barely started when profiles are already emerging from this new crop of men and women, all farmers, all in search of a soul mate. Yesterday, Monday January 20, 2025, M6 broadcast a new evening dedicated to portraits of its candidates. Viewers met five of them, including Laurent.

A sheep farmer in the Rhône-Alpes Auvergne region, the man, aged 58 and father of 2 grown children, did not make the decision to participate in the show after years of too heavy an emotional solitude, but on the contrary, is recovering from a recent and painful widowhood. For 36 years, he shared his life with Françoise, who unfortunately died of cancer in February 2023.

Open your heart again

“Françoise had her first breast cancer ten years ago and unfortunately in February 2023, they discovered metastases at the back of the eye”he confided to Karine Le Marchand. He adds that very weakened, she died of a cardiac arrest shortly after her return to the hospital, suddenly. He barely had time to give her one last kiss. His story, his way of telling it, the tenderness, the underlying sadness, shocked viewers.

And it was by witnessing the budding story between Mickaël, also a widower, and Nadia, last December in “L'amour est dans le pré”, that Laurent decided to give himself the freedom to open up his heart. As a reminder, transported by love, Mickaël, kneeling on the ground, made his proposal in front of millions of fans touched by his initiative.

“My friend told me: 'It's good that you're moving forward, the year you've just had is not a lifetime'explained Laurent. Thing said, thing done, despite this question from Karine Le Marchand. “It’s recent, don’t you think it’s too early?”. “No,” replied the person concerned, “we must not forget the dead but that does not mean we must live with them. We promised each other that we would rebuild our lives if we were separated, because life alone is not possible.”.

It takes courage to decide to embark on a new story after so long, with all the joy, pleasures and sometimes soul bruises that adventure brings. But surely Laurent has already won a few hearts…
