Absent last year to prepare for the Olympic Games, Antoine Dupont is back this year to compete in the 6 Nations Tournament. Present in Rome on the sidelines of the official launch of the 2025 edition, the captain of the Blues confided his joy at returning to this emblematic competition. And the scrum half does not lack ambition.
The French captain is back for the Tournament! After missing the previous edition to focus on his Olympic goal, Antoine Dupont will try to win a second 6 Nations with the French XV after the 2022 grand slam. Present in Rome with the other captains and coaches, the scrum half confided his feelings to the organizer. “I missed it a lot, it wasn’t easy watching the guys on TV last year, but I had other goals and now I’m really looking forward to getting back into this wonderful Tournament.”
Dupont and the Blues will try to do better than in 2024 where in the absence of Toulouse, Grégory Alldritt and his teammates finished in second place with three victories, a draw against Italy but above all a crushing defeat at the start against Ireland in Marseille. “I think last year’s result was not up to what we expectedadmits the French captain. I think even though we weren't at our best, the end result wasn't that bad. We finished second in the Tournament. We had a good run in November and we have to continue, keep the momentum going for the Six Nations.”
-Lots of ambition
For this edition, the Blues will travel three times. In addition to the meeting in Rome, Fabien Galthié's men will travel to England and Ireland. The task therefore promises to be difficult for the Tricolores, even if after the November tour marked by three victories in three matches including one against New Zealand, Dupont and his partners will logically be favorites for the final victory. “We have a lot of ambition for this Tournament, just like the other teamssays the scrum half. I think we have the potential. It’s a big challenge for us and we’re very excited about it.” First element of answer, next Friday January 31 with the first meeting against Wales at the Stade de France.
