Lucinda Brand explains why she continued: “I was done with it”

Lucinda Brand narrowly missed out on victory in Benidorm, after narrowly losing out to Fem van Empel. However, the Baloise Glowi Lions rider was not dissatisfied afterwards. “It’s my first time on stage here, so that’s not bad,” she said in the flash interview afterwards.

“It was close“, said Brand, who entered the final straight line in second place, on the wheel of Van Empel. “Fem could just walk a little faster over the beams. After that it was just really hard to move past it. The last strips were very short. You always find yourself in a position where you think: I can pass. But then there comes another bend. You know that here.”

While Van Empel was with the first two or three riders for almost the entire cross, Brand was sometimes a little further away in the first part of the race. Did she have to recover from that afterwards? “It’s just very difficult here in the beginning. Everyone just wants to move up positions. I didn’t want to take too many risks, but then you would fall behind again. That’s how it went all the time. At a certain point I was done with that, so I moved on.”

With her second place, Brand also did good business for the World Cup. She is still well ahead. “It definitely looks good in the standings. That’s a good thing,” she said.
