- A brilliant Tommaso Giacomel (ITA) is crowned the premiere winner at the World Cup level in the mass start race in Ruhpolding.
- The Swiss athletes are keeping up nicely, Niklas Hartweg is just barely in the top 10.

With a flawless shooting performance, Tommaso Giacomel laid the foundation for the very first World Cup triumph of his career in Upper Bavaria. Because the 24-year-old Italian also fought courageously on the cross-country ski trail, he was able to leave the entire world elite just behind him in the 15 km mass start competition. Three podium finishes were his greatest achievements to date.
Behind premiere winner Giacomel, who also scored 20 goals for the first time, the Norwegian duo Sturla Holm Lägreid and Johannes Thingnes Bö grabbed the other places on the podium. Only the day before, Bö had announced the end of his top sports career in March 2025 and showed great emotions.
Both Swiss in the top 15
The two Swiss showed a solid competition. Niklas Hartweg was just able to establish himself in the top 10 despite three missed shots. The 24-year-old lost 1:04.2 minutes to Giacomel’s winning time. Joscha Burkhalter (2 errors) finished in 15th place.
Next stop: World Cup dress rehearsal in Antholz
The World Cup entourage is now moving further to South Tyrol. The total of 6 competitions from January 23rd to 26th in Antholz mark the main rehearsal for the World Cup. The title fights in Lenzerheide will take place from February 12th to 23rd, before the World Cup stages of Nove Mesto, Pokljuka and Holmenkollen will follow in March.
