Tanguy Nef (3rd) and Daniel Yule (4th) are in the fight for the podium at the end of the first round of the Wengen slalom. The two French-speaking people follow the Norwegians McGrath and Kristoffersen.
There may not be another Swiss double, but the public will have something to look forward to in the second round (1:15 p.m.). Because on the Männlichen, Tanguy Nef and Daniel Yule did the job.
Following on from his second effort in Adelboden, the Genevan produced a superb round to find himself 0”53 behind Atle Lie McGrath and only 0”10 behind Henrik Kristoffersen. “I saw Manuel Feller and I changed skis,” explained the 28-year-old from Geneva at the RTS microphone. It was a good tactical choice and I managed to put some life into my skiing. It will be the same plan in the 2nd round.”
-Fourteen hundredths behind Nef, Daniel Yule is also gaining strength. We know that the Valaisan is doing better since the Alta Badia slalom and a good 9th place. We have to go back to the Kitzbühel slalom last year to find evidence of such a good first run from the skier from Val Ferret.
“There is not much respite”
“The snow is relatively slow and there is not much respite,” admitted the Valaisan. The feeling wasn’t great, but we had to move and get to the fall line.”
It was clearly less good for the other representatives of Swiss-Ski. Loïc Meillard was far too tender to hope to reach the summits. The Valaisan of Neuchâtel origin was unable to manage the slope breaks as well as his opponents and here he is 23rd at 1”75 and under the threat of non-qualification.
Provisional 26th, Marc Rochat will have to pray to go to the second round, while Luca Aerni (28th) should not be entitled to a second effort. Ditto for Ramon Zenhäusern, 30th at 3”07.
