“Just after 2 o’clock on Sunday morning we received a call of an explosion in Plataanstraat,” says Dirk Van de Sande, spokesperson for the Rivierenland police zone. “It must have been a significant explosion, because at least three homes and at least as many parked vehicles were seriously damaged. There was limited damage to a fourth home. It was mainly about broken glass.” (Read more below the photo)
The police set up a perimeter in the street for the investigation. The local police department of Rivierenland, the federal police laboratory and the Service for the Clearance and Destruction of Explosive Devices (DOVO) arrived on the scene. (Read more below the photo)
“There was no fire and no casualties,” says Van de Sande. “One person was in shock from the event and was taken to hospital for a medical check-up. An investigation into the precise circumstances of the incident has been launched. By morning on Sunday, the perimeter was lifted and the street reopened.” (kvro)
