UFC 311 results — Makhachev, Dvalishvili defend titles

The first UFC pay-per-view event of the year ended in familiar fashion for Islam Makhachev.

ESPN’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter retained his UFC lightweight title against Renato Moicano at UFC 311 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Makhachev finished Moicano with a D’Arce choke in the first round. Moicano stepped in on a day’s notice after Arman Tsarukyan pulled out due to a back injury. The second championship bout of the night ended in Merab Dvalishvili’s first title defense of the bantamweight belt. He defeated previously undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov via unanimous decision in the co-main.

Brett Okamoto, Andreas Hale, Jeff Wagenheim and Dre Waters have the highlights from Saturday’s UFC pay-per-view.
