In women’s doubles, China’s Zheng Saisai and Wang Xinyu beat 11th seeds Veronika Kudermetova of Russia and Ena Shibahara of Japan 6-1, 7-5 in a second-round tie.
However, in a third-round match, China’s Guo Hanyu and her Russian partner Alexandra Panova lost to Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania and Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.
-In mixed-doubles, meanwhile, Zhang Shuai and her partner, Rohan Bopanna of India, received a walkover from Taylor Townsend of the US and Monaco’s Hugo Nys.
The third-seeded Alcaraz was well on top in the afternoon match at Rod Laver Arena against the Briton, who exited the court for a long medical timeout between the sets.
