For this clash of the 1/16 finals of the Coupe de France, the Vélodrome de l'Olympique de Marseille hosted LOSC. And in front of his audience, Roberto De Zerbi lined up his typical team, with Greenwood, Maupay, Rabiot and Rongier, with the exception of the goalkeeper, De Lange. On the Dogues side, Cabella, Bakker Haraldson, Mukau and André were lined up to seek a place in the round of 16. The start of the match was very calm, however, with a slight domination by Marseille.

The first play then came with a save from Gudmundsson, who was hurt when he hit the post to save a shot from Greenwood (10th). But we will have to wait until after half an hour of play for a first shot on target. On a Lille corner, the defense was poorly positioned and let Greenwood go alone to challenge Mannone… but the Englishman missed his duel in front of the firm hand of the LOSC goalkeeper (36th). Maupay then thought to score on a nice breakthrough from Greenwood, again, but the Marseillais touched the ball with his hand (42nd).
Lille held up well
Same thing for the Mastiffs after returning from the locker room. Served behind in the penalty area, Bakker thought to open the score with a powerful strike, but also touched the ball with his hand (47th). But Genesio's men gained strength throughout this second period and after a nice pass from Meunier, David served Haraldsson back, forgotten by Cornelius, who could open the scoring (1-0, 69th). OM then had their backs against the wall and had to do everything to come back.

-Through Höjbjerg, OM forced Mannone to pull out all the stops to avoid the equalizer (72nd). OM then pushed, but came up against a heroic Lille defense at the end of the match. Greenwood even found the post at the end of the match (90th + 2), while Lille missed the break point (87th). But on the last action of the match, Luis Henrique released a sublime strike to equalize at the last second and send OM to penalties (1-1, 90th + 6).
Finally, after a save from Mannone in front of the hero Luis Henrique, then Rowe, it was indeed LOSC which qualified and joined the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (1-1, 4-3 tab). A disillusionment for OM, who believed in the feat and could have been a serious candidate for the title.
