KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – There are few answers in the deaths of three men found in the yard of a Northland home a year ago.

Clayton McGeeney, Ricky Johnson, and David Harrington were found dead in the backyard of a house near Northwest Waukomis Drive and Northwest Barry Road around 10 p.m. on Jan. 9, 2024.

The Platte County Prosecutor’s office said the case remains under investigation, but declined a request for a statement about where the investigation stands or when toxicology results will be released.

THE INVESTIGATION

A woman called police on Jan. 9, 2024, after she couldn’t find her fiancé. She said he was at the Northland house of a friend to watch a Chiefs game.

She went to the house, but no one answered. She later told police she broke into the basement.

She called police after she found a body on the back porch and the bodies of two other people in the back yard.

Investigators said there are no obvious signs of foul play, but haven’t said what killed the three men.

THE FOURTH FRIEND

A fourth man named Jordan Willis was also at the house when his friends died, according to investigators.

An attorney who represented Willis told KCTV5 last year Willis had nothing to do with the deaths.

“Jordan is unaware of how his friends died. Like the rest of us, Jordan is anxiously awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology report. On behalf of Jordan and his family, we wish to express our deepest sympathies to the friends and family members of these young men, and our thoughts and prayers are with them,” John Picerno said during an interview in 2024.

He also said Willis allowed officers to search his house when they arrived at his front door. Picerno said Willis’ friends parked their cars on the street and he didn’t see them until after police arrived.

“Prior to being contacted by police, he did not receive any phone calls or text messages from friends or family members of the deceased. Two people came to his house; however, he did not hear them as he sleeps with air buds and a loud fan. One of those people, the wife of one of the deceased, tried to reach him via Facebook messenger, unfortunately, he did not see this message until after the police contacted him,” Picerno said.

QUESTIONS REMAIN

Willis moved out of the house last year.

Picerno also said a fifth person was at the house the night McGeeney, Johnson, and Harrington died.

Prosecutors have not confirmed whether they are investigating a fifth person in connection with the deaths.
