After they had two home games postponed due to the severe wildfires in Southern California, the Los Angeles Lakers returned to work on Monday at Crypto.com Arena against the San Antonio Spurs. That meant going up against Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs’ 21-year-old 7-foot-3 monster.

They had lost two games in a row in Texas to the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks, and they’re looking to restart the momentum those two defeats stalled. After a somewhat sluggish start, they took a 62-53 lead into halftime.

On one play in the first half, LeBron James, who is nearly twice the age of Wembanyama, took the second-year man off the dribble and took him to school by converting a layup over him.

Wembanyama is, by far, the NBA’s leader in blocked shots with 4.0 rejections per game this season. The fact that James was able to make a layup over him is evidence that the 40-year-old superstar still has plenty left in the tank, even if he doesn’t have nearly as much athleticism as he once possessed.
