ATP Australian Open Picks

Andrey Rublev of Russia will duke it out with rising star Joao Fonseca of Brazil in the first round of the men’s singles tournament at the 2025 Australian Open Championships. Rublev has been on a slump since last year, losing his last five matches and seven of his last eight. In a stunning turn of events, the No.9-ranked Russian lost to Fabrian Marozsan of Hungary 7-5 3-6 6-3 in the first round of the 2025 Hong Kong Open. Rublev outpointed Marozsan 97-91 but it was the Hungarian who scored the important points of the match. Fonseca, the newly crown ATP NextGen champion, has won his last 13 matches leading up to the Australian Open. After ruling ATP’s tournament for players under-20, he then conquered the 2025 Canberra Challenger where he posted five consecutive straight sets wins, including a title-clinching 6-4 6-4 win over Ethan Quinn. He also swept all three qualifying matches to set up an intriguing first-round showdown with Rublev.
