Defeated by 31 points, the Villeurbannais of Nando De Colo performed very poorly in the evening in the race for the final stages.
Villeurbanne largely lost (93-62) to the Serbian club Partizan Belgrade, Tuesday at the Décines-Charpieu Arena, at the end of a match of the 21st day of the Euroleague basketball during which the ‘Asvel showed itself to be totally powerless against a direct competitor in the fight for the dams.
The two teams were 13th at kick-off and the Villeurbannais, who remained on a road victory over Efes Istanbul (82-76) and now have a record of nine victories for twelve defeats, thus missed the opportunity to get closer to this objective of appearing among the top ten while the teams ahead of them in the ranking are standing still.
Maledon and De Colo silent
From the start of the match, Pierric Poupet’s team, notably deprived of Joffrey Lauvergne, Mbaye Ndiaye and Charles Kahudi, struggled. She was clearly dominated on the rebound (29-40) and was too clumsy in her shots (43%, 10/23 at two points and 20% at three points with 3/15). Well in place defensively, Partizan (53.7% at two points with 22/41, 50% at three points with 12/24) finished the first quarter with eleven points in advance (31-20), a gap confirmed at half-time (45-34).
-The start of the third quarter ultimately lost 29-9 was terrible for the Villeurbannais who completely collapsed against a collectively superior opponent (27 assists to 14). They saw their opponents gradually take a considerable lead of eighteen points (58-40) in the 24th minute then 22 in the 25th minute (63-41) to give themselves a sufficiently comfortable advantage to ensure the victory with ten minutes from the end (+31, 74-43) thanks in particular to the efficiency of Iffe Lundberg (18 points) and Tyric Jones (22 pts) or Sterling Brown (16 pts).
On the side of Villeurbanne, who shared the points in the last quarter (19-19) as in the second (14-14), Théo Maledon and Nando De Colo did not have their usual performance (7 points each) while Melvin Ajinça scored 14 points and Shaquille Harrison, nine.
